We speak English and Hiligaynon, or commonly known as Ilonggo, at home. But we also want to teach Gab the Filipino language.  To make it is easy and fun, we taught him Tagalog thru a song.

Colorful words makes reading and learning more fun

He first heard the Bahay Kubo song when his 6-year old playmate sang the song during our Christmas vacation in Bacolod. He likes the song and he wanted to learn it. Since Gab knows how to read, just like when we teach him other songs, we wrote down the lines using his colorful pens. This makes him more interested in reading the colorful words. We started by reading and singing the lyrics line by line until the we complete the song.

The Bahay Kubo song is about a small hut with the variety of vegetables surrounding it. We wanted him to learn the vegetables as well, so we schedule a trip to the grocery. It was a little challenging though as not all vegetables are available.

After two weeks of practice, Gab memorized the song and knows the vegetables and how they actually look like.
