You’re Not You Film for ALS Awareness

I think everyone knew about the ice bucket challenge for ALS as it has been going around social media and in television this 2014. It became well known in the United States when it affected a famous baseball player by the name of Lou Gehrig,  and that everyone, not only international and Hollywood celebrities, seemed to be doing the ice bucket challenge.  But not all are aware of what really ALS is.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) or Lou Gehrig’s disease is a neurodegenerative disorder with various causes. ALS affects the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. It is characterised by muscle spasticity, rapidly progressive weakness due to muscle wasting. This results in difficulty speaking, swallowing,  breathing and eventually leads to paralysis. The survival from onset to death is three to four years on average. Most die from respiratory failure.

You're Not You

You’re Not You is a film, starring Hilary Swank, Emmy Rossum and Josh Duhamel, gives a face to the much talked about ALS.

Kate (Hilary Swank), a pianist struck with ALS and Bec (Emmy Rossum), who assisted to take care of Kate, find each other’s strength through their weaknesses. These two strangers brought out the best in each other even in the midst of trials and heartaches.
