Press Release

Family of TCS NYC Marathon 2014 runner publishes children’s book “Run, Dad, Run!”

Children’s book author Minnie Francisco-Francia is happy to announce that her second children’s book after the successful story book “Maria’s Colorful Banca,” is now off the press. The book is entitled “Run, Dad Run!” and was inspired by her son Benjamin’s concern and support for his Dad Joseph at the 2014 New York City Marathon. Joseph was selected by the New York Road Runners as the flag bearer for the Philippine delegation during the Parade of Nations before the marathon. A story in two languages (English and Filipino), the book is a collaboration with children’s book illustrator Leo Kempis Ang.

Minnie shares that they hope to be able to create a new market for children’s books – that of dads, uncles and grandfathers. Experts agree that the male presence in the family has a very important role in engaging children, boys in particular, in reading. “While “Run, Dad,Run” is a children’s book for the family, we encourage Dads and sons most especially, to read this together as a bonding reading activity,” says Minnie.
The book tackles subjects such as faith, persistence, and resilience in the face of challenges and adversity. While following the story of a family supporting their Dad’s first marathon, “Run, Dad,Run!” likewisehighlights the importance of having those you love encouraging you through your months of preparation. “I was inspired by all those families I’ve seen and met at the finish line that wholeheartedly supported and cheered for a family member. The running community is truly an inspiring and loving group!” says the author.

Orders for “Run, Dad, Run!” can be made online through the book’s FB page https://www.facebook.com/RunDadRun. It is also now available in National Bookstore, PowerBooks, and Fully Bookedoutlets.

While “Maria’s Colorful Banca” helped generate funds for an NGO for survivors of Typhoon Haiyan, this time, a portion of the sales of “Run, Dad,Run!” will be donated to the Uplift Cares Global Movement Foundation, Inc. which works to provide better education to underprivileged students.
