The Outdoors & Kids Sunblock

We just love being outdoors. We have weekly trip to the park, to the playground and some pool time fun. But with the heat outside, we need to get our skin protected from the sun that can do much more damage than simply give us painful sunburns.

Covering up by seeking shade,  using an umbrella, wearing a hat and clothing are ways for sun protection.  But since, we all cannot be too wrapped up and still some of body parts are exposed, sunscreens can help give additional protection.

How to Protect Kids Skin from the Sun

While some say that it is fine not to buy separate sunscreen for kids, and that kids can use adult sunblocks, we opted to share a sunscreen made for kids instead. After all, there’s really not much difference from those that are made for adults,  only gentler, tested and approved for kids’ delicate skin.

Three things I consider when looking for a sunscreen is the board spectrum protection, not just the SPF but the protection for both UVA and UVB , the suitability for the needs (developed for face, for children or hypoallergenic for those with sensitive skin), and if it has been tested and proven to be effective.

Banana Boat Kids Sunscreen Review

Banana Boat Kids SPF 50 PA+++ Sunscreen Lotion

With several choices, I decided to get the Banana Boat Kids SPF 50 PA+++ Sunscreen Lotion and here’s what we love about it:

– No sticky after feel. This sunscreen is a lotion but it leaves skin soft and not greasy or sticky.

– Sand doesn’t stick.  I was curious at first about this but after the trip to the beach, it’s true! No need to dust off the sands on your skin with the sunscreen.

– Just the right scent. It’s not fragrance-free but the smell is not strong for the little and sensitive nose.

– It has the AvoTriplex technology that protects from sunburn, from skin damage and provides longer skin protection.

Very water-resistant, sweat -resistant and doesn’t run into eyes.  The sunblock doesn’t not drip and rinse off when you get sweaty or when swimming.

– Tested and proven effective. It has a seal of recommendation from The Skin Cancer Foundation which indicates that it is an effective sunscreen that can help prevent sun-induced damage as sunburn and reduce the risk of skin cancer due to over exposure to sunlight.

We used this sun screen lotion whether we are out for a swim or when we go out to the park and playground.  The sun’s damaging rays are most intense between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., we try to stay indoors during these times but if we must be outdoors, we cover up and wear sunscreen to protect our skin. I hope there will be more kid-friendly sunscreen and sunblock with natural ingredients in the market so that we will have more choices for our little ones.
